TMG 100 Measurement System for the Contractile Properties of Muscles

The currently offered measurement system is the third-generation device. It is a product developed in cooperation with the Laboratory for Biomedical Evaluation and Muscle Biomechanics – a part of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Ljubljana. In addition to the mechanical part of the system we have also developed the software component that now offers user-friendly format. The new systems are not kept in stock, but are produced per customer order. We also offer installation and user training at the customer site. The systems are covered by a 12-month guaranty and software support (including software upgrades and on site service.)

Our software distribution centre offers one-week courses for users. The course covers actual measurements as well as interpretation of the obtained results.

TMG 100 Measurement System

TMG Measurement System consists of:

• Digital-optical sensor
• Customized electrical stimulator
• Software with user interface (GUI)
• Sensor mount
• Electrodes

Sensor Description
Physically, the contractile properties of muscles are measured with a digital radial displacement sensor. The sensor converts physical displacement to electric impulses. These are then transported through a cable to a device that adds up the impulses and sends them to a computer with a 1 kHz frequency. The sensor response is linear with negligible noise. The dynamic response of the sensor is also very high, allowing us to distinguish reaction differences between the fast and the slow muscle fibres. The mechanical sensor components are of the highest quality, and the pressure and the resistance of the displacement rod, when placed on the muscle, does not significantly restrain the movement of the muscle.

Software Description
TMG-OK software was developed with C#. The user interface is made up of two parts. The first is used for imputing personal information about the individual being measured - the software provides for security features that assure confidentiality of the obtained information as well as measurement results. The second interface is used for the actual measurement. Here, the muscle type is selected and the measurement initiated – activation of the electric stimulator and acquisition of the data produced by the sensor. Once the measurement is taken, the results are displayed in the form of a response curve as well as numerical results. Finally, a written report is generated (currently the software supports only two languages, English and Italian, and these can be selected by the user.) The measurement results are archived for later use.
